The AIM Institute an innovative not-for-profit organization that grows a strong and diverse tech community through education, career development, and outreach is seeking a Development Officer.

 

The fundraising Specialist plays a pivotal role in securing financial support from foundations, corporations, and government entities. Their primary purpose is to ensure AIM’s sustainability by effectively raising funds for both general operational needs and specific programs and projects. This is done through a multifaceted approach that includes research, proposal writing, tracking, reporting, relationship building, and strategic planning. Overall, the Fundraising Specialist serves as a catalyst for fundraising success, leveraging their communication skills, strategic thinking, and proactive approach to inspire support for AIM’s mission and goals.  

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for leading the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals from individual, family, corporate foundations, and federal and state government entities. 
  • Write proposals, prepare budgets, reports and other ancillary materials needed for strong applications and ensure proper reporting compliance with all grant funders. 
  • Conducts thorough research, understanding funder priorities and articulates how AIM’s mission aligns with these priorities.  
  • Develop and foster relationships with grant funders through personal communication, face to face meetings, phone calls, emails, written correspondence, etc.
  • Arrange for on-site tours, make appointments for President and CEO, members of the development team and others with donors and potential funders.
  • Provide meaningful stewardship and cultivation for new and existing donors by managing Acknowledgement SOP, implementing processes related to the donor stewardship/cultivation plan.
  • Manage existing grants by tracking progress, developing internal reporting systems, writing reports, maintaining excellent historical records, working with staff to ensure each project or program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations.
  • Serves as lead staff to maintain current records in database (NetSuite), track metrics, contracts, communication and all touch points with donors and prospective funders.
  • Manage a large donor portfolio of foundation/grant funders.
  • Monitor and manage grants income goals.
  • Participate in the Grant Vetting process 
  • Assist in research, prospecting, and application development for federal, state and local grants. 
  • Make sure vetted opportunities are added to the Grant Pathways and NetSuite and are discussed at assigned traction meetings. 
  • Complete Grant Vetting Notes on Opportunity. 
  • Manage invoicing process for the Philanthropy Team and ensure outstanding account receivables are realized.
  • Effectively convey the organization’s mission, vision, and programs to donors and potential funders.
  • Speak and write persuasively about the mission, programs, and needs of AIM.
  • Complete and facilitate grant hand-off notes and meetings.
  • Serve as the staff member assigned to take notes at the fundraising committee of the board of directors.
  • Assist in developing and delivering annual impact report at the end of each year.
  • Support CEO in community engagement opportunities  
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, sales, or a related field.
  • Proven track record in meeting deadlines, managing projects, and exceeding performance goals.
  • Experience with CRM or database management tools preferred.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and achieve performance goals in a professional environment
  • Demonstrated success in managing projects, building client or donor relationships, and coordinating multiple tasks effectively.

  • Ability to and interest in learning more about tech skills and tech careers
  • Ability to work independently with high degree of self management
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with participants and others of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with community partners
  • Proficiency in Google applications such as Google docs, Gmail, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and accurately, and make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures
