This manager position will cover Neurodiagnostics that include EEG services outpatient and in-patient services.

A Brief Overview
Manages a variety of patient care functions across the continuum of care for the patient population by designated division, and the day-to-day specialty clinic operations including but not limited to adhering to budgets and maintaining staff and clinic efficiencies. Promotes growth and development of staff, serving as a mentor and coach. Functions as a communication bridge between staff and specialty pediatrics leadership. Responsible for developing, supporting, and monitoring area, departmental, and administrative goals. Builds and leads multi-disciplinary care teams in collaboration with ambulatory, ancillary and all leadership across the organization towards improving patient outcomes and specialty clinic growth.

Essential Functions

  • Manages and provides direction to clinical, and support staff and additional members of team. Builds and leads multi-disciplinary care teams in collaboration with ambulatory, ancillary and in-patient leadership across continuum. Personnel Management Selects/hires employees; partners with SPC Educators for onboarding and training for job related tasks. Conducts employee performance management duties including completion and delivery of performance evaluations, setting goals, dissemination of information, coaching, addressing performance issues/routine correction actions, and recommending termination of employment. Promotes an environment that fosters professional and personal growth of staff through regularly meeting with staff to discuss professional growth and development. Makes salary recommendations. Submits notifications for personnel actions (e.g., status changes, terminations). Makes recommendations for human resource needs. Review and implement strategic employee engagement strategies Manages staffing levels in accordance with agreed upon staffing benchmarks, understands, and clearly explains any variances Manages a variety of patient care functions for the patient population served. Implements and executes strategic goals, initiatives, and new program growth Operational/Financial Management Develops and monitors defined patient care and operational standards to ensure activities achieve optimum service delivery. Develops systems/care/processes and establishes high performance objectives for the department. Holds self and team accountable to meet stated objectives, outcomes, goals, timetables, and commitments, adhering to standards even in the face of unforeseen circumstances. Measures and monitors clinic performance, including quantitative and qualitative measures of success and acts upon results. Ensures efficient and effective day-to-day operations by adhering to sound methods of financial planning, responsible business and resource management practices and hospital policies. Coordination of clinic space, clinic schedules, exam room allocation, and staffing coordination. Aware of and assisting in coordination of inter-disciplinary/specialty clinics/programs and the service clinics involvement in such. Maintains systems to provide adequate supplies and equipment to area. Deals effectively with patient and family concerns, facilitating a multi-disciplinary team approach Makes decisions guided by the strategic plan and resource availability that impacts service levels and the teams ability to meet objectives Provides input to strategic plan development and responsible for the implementation and execution of strategic directives Analyzes processes and procedures and makes recommendations and/or decisions on guidelines for daily processes/activities within department. May recommend policy changes related to the department. Implements new or revised policies, processes, and procedures within the work area. Collaborates with leadership in development of the annual budget, monitors and prepares budget variance reports for the department. Applies business and management expertise to identify problems/opportunities, determine solutions, and measure results. Accountable for management of the day-to-day specialty clinic operations with 24 hours accountability in the event of provider need to cancel clinic, staffing changes, or weather-related closures Ensure that schedules are consistently optimized for provider availability and full patient access, in collaboration with ambulatory scheduling Manage and monitor room utilization to ensure most efficient use of limited resources Review patient experience reports and implement SPC wide practices to improve the patient and family experience. Develop and ensure proper patient education is provided to patients and patients families Ensures compliance with quality assurance, safety practices, policies, regulatory, and legal requirements. Manages professional accreditations Assures programs meet accreditation and regulatory standards for AASM and ABRET.
  • Oversees developing, implementing, and evaluating patient/family/staff of specialty specific education. Oversees onboarding of new employees to the unit. Creates an orientation program for each role in the division in collaboration with educator. Develops, implements, and evaluates general nursing and area specific skills classes for new employees in collaboration with SPC Educators. Manages unit orientation to evaluate the orientees progress towards gaining competency in unit standards/skills in collaboration with SPC Educators. Coordinates department participation in the mentorship/preceptor program with the SPC Educators to ensure consistent standards in teaching and the promotion of quality professional patient care. Selects appropriate assignments and learning experiences for new staff. Fosters the use of adult learning and critical thinking principles with preceptors by providing ideas, skill stations, different teaching styles, and related activities to help the preceptor be a more effective teacher. Coordinates and collaborates with departmental clinical experts (to analyze needs to lead the development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of comprehensive continuing education programs (i.e., orientation skills checklists, self-studies, education videos, education supplies, and orientation manual) based on annual needs assessment, staff request, division direction, new equipment/care practices, variance trends, and patient/parent and other customers satisfaction.

Education Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited school of nursing, if position filled by a RN Required or
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of nursing, if position filled by a RN Required or
  • Graduate of an accredited AMA approved school and accredited by National Board of Respiratory Care Required and
  • Master's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in nursing, preferably in pediatrics Required or
  • If working in the sleep lab, must have 3 years experience in a sleep lab or other facility performing sleep disorders diagnostic evaluations, preferably in a pediatric setting (not in addition to the 3 years experience required in nursing) Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of science involved in respiratory care and electrophysiological monitoring and equipment function related to sleep medicine.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software application relevant to work functions.
  • Knowledge of sleep medicine and respiratory procedures.
  • Knowledge of neurodiagnostic procedures.
  • Skill in public speaking to communicate with groups on topics related to sleep medicine and neurodiagnostics.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize diverse management and clinical responsibilities.
  • Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Required or
  • CNS-Clinical Nurse Specialist (APRN-CNS) in the state of Nebraska/compact state Required or
  • RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (position may be filled by a Respiratory Therapist only if working in the Sleep Lab) Required and
  • RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist if filled by a Respiratory Therapist, current and valid National Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential within 1 Year Required and
  • AASM - Registered Polysomnographic Technologist if filled by a Respiratory Therapist, must be registered in Sleep Technology by The American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM), The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC), The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BPRT) or an equivalent examination accepted by The Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) within 1 Year Required and
  • Health Services\BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Required
