POSITION SUMMARY:
The Distribution Center Manager provides leadership and direction for plant, distribution and/or warehouse operations for assigned manufacturing facilities. This role manages labor and costs to ensure all resources are identified and utilized to achieve business goals and results. The Distribution Center Manager will oversee a safe and organized environment, lead and develop warehouse staff, optimize material flow, and ensure on-time delivery to customers while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrate leadership by championing Lozierâ??s Mission, Vision, and Values and living the Lozier Leadership Model.
- Lead and manage all warehouse and distribution activities including receiving, warehousing, inventory management, and shipping.
- Develop, implement, and drive continuous process improvement objectives to increase operational efficiency, accuracy, and throughput in associated areas.
- Develop, implement, and maintain structure for achieving safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale (SQDCM) objectives.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies to maintain a safe work environment.
- Work collaboratively across plants, with all levels, and cross functional teams to effectively meet objectives and ensure on-time order fulfillment.
- Maintain high levels of inventory accuracy through robust cycle counting and inventory control procedures.
- Manage capacity, labor planning, and staffing levels to support strategy, production, and shipping schedules.
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, order accuracy, labor productivity, and inventory accuracy.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and staging to prevent damage or misplacement.
- Develop, coach, and oversee warehouse supervisors, leads, and hourly staff to support distribution center and company objectives ensuring performance goals are met.
- Manage and maintain warehouse equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks, to ensure operational readiness.
- Support ERP system usage for inventory tracking, order fulfillment, and shipping documentation.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement and lean warehousing practices by providing solid expectations and strategic planning.
- Prepare budgets, control expenses and cost standards, and drive cost-saving initiatives within the distribution function.
- Demonstrate regular attendance and timeliness in reporting to work, meetings, and completing assignments.
- Ability to work and interact well with others.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plan the arrangement of goods within the warehouse by directing the configuration and management of the data in the warehouse management system.
- May oversee the unified payments interface (UPI) process.
- May participate in collective bargaining process.
- Supports company sponsored community activities and various wellness activities.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor degree in supply chain, logistics, business, or another related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing, warehouse, logistics, distribution center operations, or other relevant experience utilizing warehouse management systems (WMS) and radio frequency (RF) device technology, if degreed. Minimum of 9 years of experience in warehouse, logistics, distribution center operations, or other relevant experience utilizing warehouse management systems (WMS) and radio frequency (RF) device technology, if non-degreed. Minimum of 2 years of lead or supervisory experience is required.
Required Skills:
- Intermediate PC skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Advanced knowledge of inventory, distribution, and warehouse management systems, processes and strategies.
- Familiarity with crating, packaging, loading, and freight operations via various transport types.
- Experience with large or custom product storage and shipment a strong plus.
- Working knowledge of ERP and warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Strong leadership, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of lean warehousing, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Analytical/quantitative problem resolution.
- Capacity to make good decisions in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to develop staff and lead the department for continuous improvement.
- Aptitude to recognize waste and/or losses and identify solution to reduce or minimize losses through recognition, utilization, and prioritization of resources.
- Ability to work as a team across all functionalities of the business.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in a union environment may be preferred based on area of assignment.
- Experience with Oracle Warehouse Management System or JDR/Manhattan.
- Experience with store fixtures, millwork, or custom fabricated product distribution.
- Familiarity with freight and logistics carriers and coordination of LTL or specialized transportation.
- Forklift certification or prior forklift operation experience.
- Bilingual skills.
SPECIAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to move throughout the manufacturing facility or warehouse 80% of the day.
- Requires frequent floor presence, including walking, standing, and collaboration with shift teams.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for using measuring instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings/specifications.
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment as needed.
