A design engineer position where the individual will provide engineering, design, analysis, cost estimates, and permitting for the District's customer-driven distribution projects. Performance is measured by safety, reliability, operability and economy of assigned projects, as well as customer service contributions.
1. Provides the requisite engineering, design, analysis, cost estimates, and permitting for the construction of additions and modifications to the District's distribution facilities to ensure the safe, reliable and economic delivery of electric power to meet customer and system load requirements.
2. Works on large, technically complex projects and participates on cross-functional project teams as required.
3. Accountable for design compliance with all applicable governmental requirements, codes, industry standards, internal procedures, reliability (NERC/MRO/SPP) standards, and internal policies.
4. Accountable for safety, reliability, operability, and economy of assigned projects.
5. Strong customer-service focus with the ability to balance prudent design practices and customer expectations.
6. Provides technical direction and training to entry-level engineers and designers.
7. Stays abreast of technological advances and provides input on emerging trends to Manager and Team.
8. Focuses on continuous improvement and development of job related engineering technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance including progression towards professional engineering licensure.
Required:
* Four (4) year Bachelor of Science degree in (Structural/ Civil / Electrical) Engineering from an ABET-accredited program OR Professional Engineer (PE) license.
* Four (4) years of equivalent engineering work experience. Special projects and committees may be considered for experience durations. Master's degree may be considered for up to two years of experience.
* Knowledgeable in the various regulations and codes which apply to their specific discipline.
* Effective oral presentation and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations, and present recommendations.
* A valid driver¿s license.
Desired:
* Engineer in Training (EIT/FE) certification or other relevant industry-level education / certification
* Professional Engineer (PE) license
* Familiarity and experience with Asset Suite, Cognos, AutoDesk (CAD, Inventor, Vault), Bentley MicroStation, SharePoint, and PLS-CADD.
* Master¿s degree in Engineering or Business.
* Advanced MS Office Professional Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
* Electric utility distribution design and construction exposure.
* Understanding of NESC, OSHA, ASCE, etc. as it applies to distribution design and construction methods.
* Thorough knowledge of OPPD¿s T&D, Substation, and Generation system.
