Provides protection system design application engineering and operational support engineering for the District's generation, transmission and distribution facilities, for interties with other utilities, and with customer owned energy source facilities to ensure adequate and reliable system and operation.
1. Provide design application engineering and operational support engineering for system protection systems to ensure the adequate and reliable operation and availability of the District's generation, transmission and distribution facilities, and of interties with other utilities and customer owned energy source facilities.
2. Review protective relay operations and analyze system outages and disturbances to ensure continuous and reliable system performance. Resolve operational control problems on the District's generation, transmission, distribution, and customer owned energy source facilities caused by short circuits or other disturbances.
3. Provide protection engineering for distributed resource interconnection and support District generation capacity addition/upgrade projects.
4. Support the Department's mission in areas of Regulatory Compliance.
5. Keep abreast of the latest technological advances to ensure that protection systems meet the District's needs.
6. Maintain 24 hour availability for technical and professional assistance, emergency response, and direct remedial action in response to emergencies.
Required:
* Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
* Valid driver's license.
Desired:
* Co-op, internship, or other relevant program experience.
* Protection engineering experience related to substation, transmission, or distribution systems.
* Electric Utility engineer experience in system protection.
* Effective communication skills (written and verbal) with co-workers, vendors, and customers (internal and external).
* Self-starting and multi-tasking abilities.
* Ownership and accountability to provide timely, accurate results and openness to improvement and change.
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
