Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261 day 12-month / exempt
Salary Schedule: Specialist 3 - 92C
Position Purpose: This person is responsible for processing, analyzing, reviewing and coordinating assigned Federal grants, including managing all funds and financial reporting. Will work closely with the Grants Coordinator, Budget & Grants Manager, Grants Accounting Staff, stakeholders and others to ensure compliance with all grant reporting and financial requirements.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Manages the receipt and distribution of assigned funds.
- Manages all accounts and accounting functions required for maintenance of assigned grants
- Create, maintain and implement review processes to determine if errors are occurring. Research errors found and work with the appropriate Departments to take appropriate action to correct errors.
- Review ledger changes as they are requested and approved, to determine what changes are required within the Human Capital Management (HCM) accounting tables to meet Financial Information System (FIS) for grant and operating budgets.
- As related to assigned grant funds, is responsible to make sure HCM and FIS accounting lines remain in balance.
- As related to assigned grant funds, reconciles all General Ledger Payroll Liability accounts on a monthly basis.
- As related to assigned grant funds, reviews all interfund Payroll Liability transfer journals for the Financial Management systems.
- Develop and maintains a set of queries for grant reimbursements, management inquires, auditorsâ?? inquiries, etc.
- As related to assigned grant funds, prepare and maintain all audit work papers.
- Assist in creating and maintaining combination coding for the accuracy of the HCM system.
- Create reports and other documentation as appropriate.
- As related to assigned grant funds, is responsible for tracking and verifying Federal and State tax payments to the respective agencies.
- Assists other department personnel in assigned duties as needed.
Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with OPSâ??s guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Limited travel within the metro area may be required.

- Work in school building and central office environments.
- Will work on a computer daily for multiple hours a day
Interrelations:
- Maintain professional contact with personnel within all levels of the District, funding organizations, and auditors.
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day-to-day tasks.
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide timely, responsive customer service.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employeeâ??s supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimum of BSBA in Accounting or related field.
- Minimum of three years successful Financial Analysis or Accounting experience with an emphasis on non-profit work is preferred.
- Prior Federal grant experience preferred.
- Prior donor management experience preferred.
- Demonstrate technology skills, V lookup, pivot tables and charts, Microsoft Word, and Excel. Proficient abilities in creating and using spreadsheets.
- Prior knowledge of Governmental Fund Accounting is preferred.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines for monthly and annual closings, and reporting.
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks concurrently.
- Demonstrate abilities and willingness conductive to a continuous quest for quality education.
- The skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with all staff, students, parents, administrators and the community.
Terms of Employment
This position is treated as a full-time exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
